A respiratory outbreak at Pioneer Ridge has been identified as influenza A.

As a result the senior home has put preventative measures in place, cancelling all admissions, transfers, discharges and social activities until further notice.

Visitation is now limited to family members and caregivers only.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit says the arrival of the flu in the city is an opportunity for residents to arm themselves with a flu shot, which are still available from health-care providers, pharmacies and during the health unit’s scheduled clinic held each Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Health unit officials are also advising the public to avoid visiting hospitals and long-term care facilities when feeling unwell.
