THUNDER BAY -- After concerns earlier this year about a mismatched vaccine, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, is reporting a better than expected season for the flu in this region.
Reports earlier in the year suggested the vaccine being distributed differed from the flu strain that was circulating. Despite that, the health unit recorded unusually low flu numbers early on. After a late season surge, officials say the number of cases in the area remained slightly below average. It saw a dip in people coming to their flu shot clinics, something they credited to the availability of vaccines at local pharmacies.
More than 60,000 flu vaccines were distributed this season, more than 14,000 of those went to pharmacies.
