THUNDER BAY -- Icebreaking began in the Port of Thunder Bay Tuesday.

Unfortunately, with the heavy fog, local residents haven't been able to watch the U.S. Coast Guard's ''Alder'' hard at work in the harbour. The ice-coverage is much lighter than past years so he Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker "Samuel Risley" is scheduled to be here next week only if it's needed.

The Soo Locks open on March 25 with the first ships expected to arrive in Thunder Bay a few days after that.
