THUNDER BAY - Representatives of food banks from all across the province have come to Thunder Bay to discuss strategy in hopes of improving services to those in need.
One hundred representatives are in attendance discussing how they have and can improve services and food security throughout the northwest.
It is a mesh of solutions from different regions that the Executive Director of the Ontario Association of Food Banks Carolyn Stewart hopes will solve many issues facing northern communities.
Despite an abundance of hunting and fishing grounds across the Northwest, the costs associated with those activities have gone up in recent years which as RFDA Executive Director Volker Kromm added is only part of the issue.
Overall in the province over 360,000 people receive some form of service offered by food banks in Ontario per month.
Locally the Regional Food Distribution Association has been working very hard to maintain service levels and the amount of people who need food assistance programs in Thunder Bay has not changed.
