The Regional Food Distribution Association announced Friday that it is going green.

The food bank is making the changes necessary to start supplying fresh fruits and vegetables to people in need. A recent $700 donation from Diabetic Health Thunder Bay is kick starting the new project. The money will supply fresh fruits and vegetables to the Redwood food bank.

Diabetic Health Dietician, Ritva Restall says the number of people diagnosed with diabetes is escalating each year.

She says it is important for people both with and without diabetes to live a healthy life, which includes eating properly.

RFDA president Larry Brigham says the association’s goal for 2010 is to make sure that all 28 food banks they supply are equipped with healthy options.
