The former president of the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce has a new title.

Mary Long-Irwin has been named the executive director for the Northern Ontario Enterprise Gateway. The organization’s board of directors made the official announcement Friday.

The NOEG is an organization that works to improve the flow of investment of capital in regional companies by linking investors with entrepreneurs.

"I am just delighted to take on this new challenge," Long Irwin said. "NOEG is a unique initiative for Northern Ontario and one that helps entrepreneurs and investors alike to find new economic opportunities within their own northern communities."

"After working in an interim position with NOEG for the last three months, I am looking forward to taking on this permanent role and help make new deals happen for the North."

Long-Irwin served as the president for the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce for nine years. She announced her departure from the Chamber in June, 2009.

Long-Irwin will replace NOEG’s regional co-ordinator, Jim Noble.

Noble led NOEG for the past three years.
