LOS ANGELES -- Add life-saver to the resume of former Thunder Bay NHLer Tony Hrkac.
According to a TMZ report, the 57-year-old was in the press box during a Jan. 4 game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Los Angeles Kings when Hrkac noticed a league employee who appeared to be choking on a pretzel.
Sources told the entertainment outlet that Hrkac quickly administered the Heimlich manoeuvre on the NHL employee, forcing the piece of pretzel from the person’s throat. They were then able to begin breathing normally.
Hrkac spent 14 seasons in the National Hockey League, putting up 371 points in 718 games, and won the Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999.
He also played for St. Louis, Quebec, San Jose, Chicago, Edmonton, the New York Islanders, Anaheim and Atlanta.
Hrkac won the Hobey Baker Award in 1987 as a member of the University of North Dakota hockey team and retired from hockey in 2010 after suiting up for 17 games with the American Hockey League’s Houston Aeros.
He’s currently a scout with Tampa Bay.
