Fort Frances man charged with robbery

A weekend robbery has resulted in charges for one Fort Frances man.

FORT FRANCES – Police charged a 41-year-old man with robbery of a Fort Frances business on Sunday.

Fort Frances Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched to a business on Sunday around 4:48 p.m. after receiving a report of a male brandishing a wooden-handled tool when confronted by store staff about not paying for merchandise. The man fled the store on foot.

Police say staff provided officers with a description of the man.

Officers located the accused around 4:54 p.m. approximately two blocks away and placed him under arrest. A weapon identified as a picaroon was seized and the stolen merchandise was found.

Richard KABATAY, 41 of Fort Frances has been charged with robbery.

He remains in custody awaiting his next court appearance scheduled for May 25.
