Fort Frances man with history of impaired driving offences charged again

A 51-year-old Fort Frances man has been charged with impaired driving after a traffic stop on Wednesday night.

FORT FRANCES — Rainy River District Ontario Provincial Police have charged a Fort Frances man with impaired driving after already having five previous convictions for the same offence.

OPP say on March 17, officers observed a disqualified driver on King’s Highway in Fort Frances, according to a news release.

A traffic stop was conducted and the male driver was arrested for impaired operation based on the officer’s observation and obvious indicators of impairment.

In the release, police say the accused was also awaiting trial on a previous impaired driving charge and has five previous convictions of impaired driving.

The driver was presented to the OPP detachment for further testing and it was confirmed the driver was impaired.

As a result, Marcel Audet, 51 of Fort Frances was charged with operating a conveyance while impaired by alcohol or drugs and driving while disqualified.

His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his motor vehicle was impounded for 90 days, according to police.
