The time has come for Fort Frances to move on from the old, and say hello to the new.
The town can now move forward with plans to build a new market square in the downtown core, after officially awarding a tender to JMX contracting for the demolition of the Rainy Lake Hotel.
The hotel on Fort Frances' main commercial street was built in 1928.
It's been closed for more than eight years and now its long-awaited demoltion can begin.
The Northern Ontario Heritage fund is giving the town nearly $1 million to help fund the market square project that will replace the hotel on the property.
Officials say this is an exciting time for Fort Frances and its commercial sector.
The demolition is expected to be complete by the end of November, and the $1.8 million market square project will begin next spring.
