Community justice was the topic of discussion this afternoon at a partnership forum organized by the John Howard Society.

Representatives from all areas of the criminal justice system were in attendance to network and build relationships in order to serve Thunder Bay and the surrounding region better.

John Howard executive director Liisa Leskowski says issues regarding high crime rates and gang violence can't be resolved without an open line of communication between all sectors.

The forum addressed a variety of issues, including the impact of the justice system on the Aboriginal community. Leskowski says it's a sad fact that First Nations are over-represented in correctional facilities.

Tresierra agrees and says it is important to emphasize renewed culture and traditions as well as strong family relationships.
