THUNDER BAY – Pet owners looking to have their fuzzy friends spayed or neutered in the city will soon have a chance, but officials say to sign up early as spots are limited.
The Thunder Bay and District Humane Society is hosting a special Pop-up Spay and Neuter Clinic from July 14 to 17, offering affordable surgical services for local pet owners.
Booking opens on Friday at 5:00 p.m., exclusively online.
This opportunity is expected to fill up quickly.
“We can only do so much in the four days, so it’s important to get on there at 5 p.m. sharp,” said Shawna Beaulieu, Executive Director of the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society. “We’ll be doing about 100 (surgeries) total.”
The demand for affordable spay and neuter services remains high in Thunder Bay. “It’s very needed, for sure. We still get calls daily from the public looking for access to local spay/neuter options,” Beaulieu added.
Service costs will vary depending on the animal, female or male cat, and by the size of the dog. A full breakdown of fees is available on the Humane Society’s website to help pet owners plan accordingly.
“It was just an opportunity that came up, there were some veterinarians that had the capacity to come here for a week and do some public surgery for us,” Beaulieu Said.
The veterinarians, two locums travelling from Southern Ontario, were originally scheduled elsewhere. Thanks to a partnership with the Ontario SPCA, the team was redirected to Thunder Bay when their previous plans fell through.
With limited space and strong demand, pet owners are encouraged to act fast when the booking link goes live on July 4. Visit the Humane Society’s website to secure an appointment.
