Four more deaths attributed to COVID-19

Thunder Bay District Health Unit announces 25 new cases, says active case count has dropped to 199, the fewest since Feb. 19.

THUNDER BAY – The District of Thunder Bay has suffered four more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the region’s total to 51.

There have been 21 deaths in March alone.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Tuesday announced the deaths alongside 25 new cases, which leaves the region with 199 active cases, the first time the case count has dropped below 200 since Feb. 19.

Since the first case was announced in Thunder Bay last March 27, there have been 2,826 cases, meaning about one in 53 people living in the district have contracted the virus.

Of those cases, 2,576 are considered to be resolved.

Of the new cases, seven are listed as close contact exposures, 10 are from household contact, five are of unknown origin and three are considered still under investigation.

Twenty of the 25 cases reside in Thunder Bay and surrounding area and five are from district communities.

The district’s seven-day, per-100,000 rolling case count stands at 110.05, which matches Saturday’s monthly low.
