THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced four additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 Sunday, a day after announcing seven new cases.

All are considered a result of close contact with an existing case, according to the health unit.

The cases are all located in the Thunder Bay area, which also includes Oliver Paipoonge, Neebing, Gillies, Shuniah, Conmee, O'Connor, and some unorganized territories.

The health unit has announced 12 new cases in the Thunder Bay area in three days, including one on Friday.

The news brings the total number of active cases in the Thunder Bay district to 12, and total cumulative cases to 129.

The health unit announced earlier Sunday that at least two confirmed cases of COVID-19 were associated with an outbreak at two local addiction recovery centres. Public health authorities warned several other individuals associated with the outbreak were considered probable cases.

The episode date for the new cases - reflecting the earliest date of symptom onset, specimen collection, laboratory testing, or date reported to TBDHU - are listed as Nov. 6 for three of the cases, and Nov. 7 for the fourth.

The health unit no longer reports age or gender information associated with new cases.
