Shipments of wind turbine parts are providing Thunder Bay's Keefer Terminal with some economic activity early this year.

The terminal's third and fourth shipments of wind turbine parts this year was being loaded up onto transports Tuesday to be sent off to Western Canada. The turbines were manufactured in Denmark, and pass through the Thunder Bay terminal because of its easy access to railways and highways.

This is the third of five shipments, and harbourmaster Guy Jarvis said keeping up this momentum is important for the port.

Jarvis said later on in 2011 the terminal will see more wind turbine shipments, but these ones will be heading for Dorion.

He says it's important for the terminal to stay competitive, and hopes to see other big cargo come through in the coming year.
