(THUNDER BAY, ON) Officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a mischief that took place at a gravel pit on Escape Lake Road on June 11, 2015
When police arrived at the pit, there were approximately 200 youths on site. Upon speaking to some of the youths, it was revealed that it was a graduation gathering including students from St Ignatius School.
Officers attended and conducted a Reduced Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Escape Lake Road. As well, officers conducted foot patrol of the area and located two front loaders parked in the pit that were heavily damaged. All of the glass windows on the front end loaders were smashed as well as there was damage to the engines and interiors.
Police recorded approximately 40 licence plate numbers at the site. The registered owners of the vehicles, possibly being parents, can expect to be contacted by the OPP as they conduct their investigation.
The OPP is becoming increasingly concerned regarding these gatherings as these gatherings are becoming more common. Not only is there concern for the criminal behaviour that occurs but foremost, the safety of those that are in attendance.
