THUNDER BAY - Environment Canada is advising gardeners in and around Thunder Bay to take preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees.
It's issued a Frost Advisory for the city for Thursday night into Friday morning.
The temperature will dip as an Arctic high-pressure system settles over northern Ontario regions.
Under a clear sky with light wind, meteorologists predict an overnight low of just 0 C.
Environment Canada says the temperature will hover near the freezing mark "for a few hours."
Frost advisories are issued when temperatures are expected to reach the freezing point during the growing season, leading to potential damage and destruction of plants and crops.
The cold snap will be short-lived, as a warming trend starting Friday is predicted to bring above-normal daytime and night-time temperatures to Thunder Bay lasting well into next week.
