THUNDER BAY -- The future of mining lies with not only the companies invested in the northwest, but with those who will eventually work in the industry.

That's why getting the next generation interested in career opportunities within the industry is a big part of the upcoming Mining Day scheduled for Thunder Bay this weekend.

The Third annual event was announced Thursday, and will have many activities for children as well as displays and demonstrations for older participants.

Organizing Committee Chair Bob Chataway says there is a future in mining here in the Northwest.

While the industry is going through a bit of a lull right now, Chataway says developing new mining operations takes time. That's why he believes it’s important to get exhibitors, speakers, companies and those interested in the industry together to learn about where the mining industry is headed.

Mining Day in Thunder Bay will be held at Marina Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m.
