THUNDER BAY -- Prospective residents could be less than a year away from moving into their new homes at Hogarth Riverview Manor.

While it took years of planning, designing and funding, the $84 million expansion, the bulk of which will see a 250,000 square foot 416-bed building, is on budget and on schedule.

Construction is expected to wrap up by August with the first residents moving in by the end of October 2015.

St. Joseph's Care Group vice-president of infrastructure and planning Scott Potts said the building is going up quickly.

"Even with the cold winter last year we only lost a couple of weeks," he said.

Once that seven-storey building is complete, the existing Hogarth Riverview Manor will see a 32-bed expansion. That's expected to be completed by 2016. There will also be a link between buildings that will feature a pharmacy, hair salon and gift shop.

"Anything that people will need," St. Joe's president and CEO Tracy Buckler said.
It also means residents won't have to face the elements when moving from building to building.

"What we're really trying to do here is develop a community for the residents," Potts said.
