THUNDER BAY -- A sign outside a Thunder Bay restaurant that was evacuated on Tuesday says the business is closed for renovations.
The Four Season restaurant in the McIntyre Centre on Memorial Avenue, as well as nearby businesses, was evacuated after a natural gas odour was detected Tuesday morning.
After the incident, a Union Gas spokesperson said that cooktop burners had been left in the ON position.
On Wednesday morning, Union Gas said the gas feed to the restaurant remains turned off "as a safety precaution."
Ontario's Technical Standards and Safety Authority has been investigating the incident.
A spokesperson for TSSA said Tuesday evening that Union Gas had identified kitchen equipment hazards, and that equipment had been left off with "immediate hazard infractions" issued by a TSSA inspector.
The agency also issued a cease and desist order for the operation of one appliance, a Wok.
So far there has been no statement from restaurant management as to when they expect to reopen.
