A delegation from Thunder Bay's city sister in Japan has arrived for an official visit.

The group from Gifu City met with local officials Thursday night to renew the twinning agreement between the two cities.
Gifu City Mayor Shigemitsu Hosoe and Mayor Keith Hobbs signed a commitment to renew the sister city agreement between the two municipalities for the next five years.

It allows Thunder Bay and Gifu City to continue promoting economic development opportunities, cross-cultural understanding, and municipal and technical co-operation.

Mayor Keith Hobbs said the partnership is great, as both cities have similar priorities.

Hobbs and a group of Thunder Bay delegates visited Gifu City in May. He added they're looking at some economic development ideas like bringing Japanese students to study at Lakehead University.

The Japanese delegation has visited Lakehead University, the new law school, the Thunder Bay regional research institute and the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.

The delegation will also visit with Fort William First Nation leaders, and participate in the ringing of a peace bell at 10:30 a.m. at city hall.
