Grant allows Thunder Pride to reach communities beyond the city

The first partnership is between Thunder Pride Association, Borderland Pride and the Fort Frances Public Library.

THUNDER BAY - Thunder Pride Association has received a grant to build stronger connections with remote Indigenous communities and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

The local group was granted $69,368.00 in funding from Women and Gender Equality Canada on November 12, 2024, to support a project that will run until March 31, 2026.

Thunder Pride says due to limited capacity and resources, its physical efforts often only reach as far as Thunder Bay and the non-for-profit often relies on community members to travel to Thunder Bay or connect online to participate in what the group is able to offer.

The first partnership is with Borderland Pride and the Fort Frances Public Library. The library will host open discussions on gender identity, poetry crafting and teachings from Elders, which will be family-friendly.

An additional five outreach events are planned across Northwestern Ontario to connect with more communities.

More information on the Fort Frances event can be found here.
