THUNDER BAY -- A section of West Arthur Street was sectioned off due to a grass fire yesterday during rush hour.

Police sectioned off a section stretching from Mapleward Road to a point in between 20th Side Road and Fairview Avenue.

Platoon chief Harold Spithoff said the fire was “nothing out of the ordinary,” but due to a fire hydrant being located on the opposite side of the highway, fire crews needed to suspend traffic.

“It required a large amount of water, and we needed to section off the road in order for the hose to come across it” Spithoff said.

Fire crews remained on scene for four-and-a-half hours after receiving the initial call.
