THUNDER BAY – The groundhogs and Environment Canada meteorologists do not agree with one another.
A number of weather-predicting groundhogs – including Pennsylvania's Punxsutawney Phil -- determined Tuesday that winter would see an early end.
That, however, clashes with Environment Canada’s forecast, which shows a cold snap heading this way.
“We are looking at temperatures dropping off a bit,” said Environment Canada spokesman Geoff Coulson about the first couple of weeks of February. “Colder than normal conditions are expected for us starting around next Monday or Tuesday.”
He adds that those colder than normal weather conditions could stick around until the middle of the month.
As for snow, Coulson said it’s probably a bit too early to predict the long-term forecast for February, but added that the region could expect a bit snowfall Wednesday and Friday.
