THUNDER BAY -- A group of Thunder Bay residents headed to Boulevard Lake Friday to highlight the importance of clean, un-polluted water.

The "Water Walk" was held as part of the celebration of Canada Water Week. Organizers were hoping to raise awareness about water conservation, and garner support for the protection of water.

A bit of water from the lake was poured into pails for participants in the walk to carry. It serves as a reminder of the responsibility each person has to conserve and protect water, which we may sometimes take for granted.

Northwestern Ontario currently faces many dangers to its water supply.

Another topic that was discussed at the walk is the proposed Energy East pipeline. Co-organizer of the event, Lana Ray said while some may think of it as resource development, she sees it as an enormous threat to the waterways of Northwestern Ontario.

Ray adds that the pipeline would flow through her community of Red Rock First Nation. She worries that a pipeline could change our fresh water forever.
