THUNDER BAY -- The Guardian Angels have a new home in this city.

The non-profit volunteer group was offered a space at 112 North May Street. Guardian Angels' Ian Hodgkinson said it's great partnering with the Thunder Bay Boys and Girls Club, where the group is currently meeting, but the organization has a full agenda and space wasn't always available.

Now the Angels have their own space to meet, organize train and recruit.

"We're right in the area where everybody says we need to be," he said. "We have our own home and I think it's what we need to succeed."

The Guardian Angels is an internationally recognized organization that aims to combat crime through non-violent means using citizen volunteers.

Hodgkinson said the group plans to make the space their own, including letting kids in the area with graffiti skills tag the walls with logos.

"We can make it pretty cool," he said.

The Guardian Angels plan to meet with Fort William First Nation next Wednesday.

Hodgkinson said that should help by getting as many Aboriginal youth involved with the organization as possible.
