THUNDER BAY -- Members of the Gull Bay First Nation gathered Wednesday evening to discuss the recent $8 million settlement offer from the federal government.
The band membership meeting was held at the Valhalla Inn, and saw a strong turnout.
The community on Lake Nipigon has been offered an $8.2 million settlement relating to a timber royalties claim dating from the 1800's.
The band said it was never paid for timber and other resources taken from land meant for them in the original Robinson Treaty.
The meeting was held to discuss all the issues leading up to the vote next month.
Gull Bay Chief Wilfred King believes the members should definitely vote in a certain direction.
The vote on whether or not to accept the offer from Ottawa will be held on Sept. 10.
