Habitat for Humanity Media Release

THUNDER BAY, ON, SEPT. 2, 2016 - Back to school is the best time to shop, donate and volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay ReStore.

As the cost of living and tuition continues to increase for students every year, Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay believes it’s important to provide a cheaper alternative to the big box stores.

”Going to school is costing local students up to $20,000 a year;” says Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay CEO, Diane Mitchell.

“Students are having to battle their budget now more than ever, and the ReStore is here to help by providing affordable items for student dorms. This really supports Habitat’s vision of everyone having a safe and decent place to live.

"Getting students in the ReStore is also an opportunity to get them more aware of what Habitat does and what the ReStore is all about.”

Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay Restore is a home improvement store and donation center that sells new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, and building materials at a fraction of the retail price.

Proceeds are used to help build strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter in Thunder Bay.  During the month of September, Habitat for Humanity is providing a 15 per cent discount for students, making back-to-school shopping easy on their wallet too.

“High-quality, low-cost desks, tables, chairs, pictures, coffee makers, toasters and more are all there in one convenient location near Confederation College and Lakehead University to help students start their year off right;” continues Mitchell.

“Students looking to add that unique new or vintage item to their apartment or dorm room can find everything they need at the ReStore all while helping eliminate poverty in the District of Thunder Bay, It’s a good deal for students, the community and the environment.”

If last year’s décor just won’t make the grade this year, the ReStore accepts gently used items that get sold back to the community and helps a deserving family find a home.

The ReStore is also the perfect place for high school students to fulfill their volunteer requirements while learning valuable maintenance, retail and customer service skills.

Shop, donate or volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay ReStore today at 660 Squier Street or call 345-5520.
