THUNDER BAY -- The city’s EMS chief will take over as acting city manager at the end of the month.
City council appointed Superior North EMS chief Norm Gale as acting city manager Monday night. He’ll take over starting Oct. 30 for Tim Commisso, who is retiring.
Gale has been the head of EMS since 2007 after a career as a frontline paramedic for more than 15 years.
Gale, who put his name in for the position, said he's honoured and humbled.
"I see it certainly as an opportunity to contribute to our community in more ways and I look forward to the challenge," Gale said.
While using the next several weeks to get up to speed, Gale said his top priority will be to prepare the city's budget for next year. But he's not thinking about whether he'll be the one to present that budget as the city's permanent manager.
"It's too early for that. I look forward to the interim challenge," he said.
Gale said he'll be the temporary manager for as long as it takes council to find a permanent replacement for Commisso. An announcement for an interim chief of EMS will be made Tuesday.
The city says a search for Commisso’s permanent replacement is ongoing.
