Head-on collision sends three people to hospital

The two vehicle collision closed South Water Street early Saturday afternoon.

THUNDER BAY - Three people were taken away by ambulance following a head-on collision between two vehicles on a busy downtown street.

Emergency crews responded to the collision just before 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon on South Water Street involving a pick-up truck and an SUV.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews had to extricate at least one occupant from the pick-up truck. Thunder Bay Police closed the road between Bay Street and John Street. Three Superior North EMS ambulances also attended the scene and three people were transported to hosptial. 

Both vehicles received extensive damage. There is no word yet on the cause of the collision or the extent of the injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
