THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has reported another death related to COVID-19, as other pandemic indicators fell slightly Friday.
It’s the 79th death in the district in which the virus has been deemed a contributing or underlying cause since the pandemic began, and the ninth of this year.
There were 41 people in hospital with COVID-19 across the TBDHU, down from 45, with eight of those in the ICU, down from 13. The figures are current as of the end of day Wednesday.
On Friday, Thunder Bay's regional hospital reported it had 49 COVID-positive patients admitted, with nine in ICU.
The health unit reported 150 new confirmed cases since its last report on Wednesday.
There were 304 active cases confirmed as of Friday, down three from Wednesday.
There were nine active outbreaks being tracked in high-risk settings as of Friday. Only three of those are publicly disclosed, including outbreaks at Hogarth Riverview Manor long-term care home (Daffodil 1N area), Chartwell Arundel retirement residence, and Shelter House Thunder Bay.
The TBDHU reported a 25 per cent testing positivity rate for the week of Feb. 13 to 19, up from 23.7 per cent the previous week.
That’s well above the provincial average which has been dropping since the provincial government limited testing eligibility to a narrow range of groups
Of TBDHU residents five and above, 84.7 per cent have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 89.3 per cent have received at least one dose, according to Ministry of Health numbers.
Of those five to 11 years old, 63.3 per cent have received at least one dose, while 35.4 per cent are fully vaccinated.
