THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reported a single new case of COVID-19 Friday, while it also announced three previously reported cases had screened positive for variants of concern.
The number of active cases in the district fell to 63, with five previous cases declared resolved.
The lone case reported Friday was considered a result of close contact and located in a district community, marking the first day with no cases reported in Thunder Bay and the surrounding areas since Jan. 18.
There were six district residents in hospital with the virus Friday, a decline of one. None of those patients was in the Intensive Care Unit, the health unit reported.
There have now been a total of 29 cases to screen positive for a COVID-19 variant of concern, with three new VOCs identified Friday.
The TBDHU had an incidence rate of approximately 31.35 cases per 100,000 residents over the past week.
The health unit's testing positivity rate was 2.4 per cent on 2,704 tests conducted for April 18 to 24, the most recent week reported - a significant jump from a rate of 1.3 per cent the previous week.
The health unit has reported a total of 3,097 confirmed cases since the pandemic began, with 63 active, 2,972 resolved, and 62 deaths in which the virus was an underlying or contributing cause.
