THUNDER BAY – COVID-19 vaccination rates jumped slightly last week, as the Thunder Bay District climbed passed the 100,000 double-dosed mark.

According to figures released on Tuesday by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, as of Aug. 14 100,328 people residing in its catchment area have now had both jabs, an additional 1,894 people than the week prior.

A further 696 people received their first vaccination last week, bringing the total of people with a least one shot to 115,921, or 80.7 per cent of the 12 and older population. Totalled, 235 more vaccines were given out last week than were given out the week before.

All age categories, with the exception of those 30 to 39 have reached 70 per cent having had a first dose. The 30- to 39-year-old group is close, at 69.6 per cent. They’ve also fallen to the bottom in double-dose percentage, at 58.5 per cent, slipping below the 12 to 17-year-old group, who climbed to 59.2 per cent doubly vaccinated.

These two age groups are the only ones remaining below 60 per cent double vaccinations.

The numbers don’t include some vaccinations given in First Nation communities as part of Operation Remote, the data considered incomplete at this time.

However, the province does appear to include the figures, reporting 86.5 per cent of the 12 and older population has had at least one dose and 77.2 per cent have had both shots.
