THUNDER BAY – A heat warning is in effect for the city of Thunder Bay, with temperatures expected to range between 29 C and 34 C and a humidex value between 35 C and 41 C.
Environment Canada warns hot and humid air can lead to deteriorating air quality and the air quality index can approach the high-risk category.
The public is reminded to watch for the effects of heat illness, including swelling, rashes, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions. People should drink plenty of water, even before feeling thirsty, and if possible, stay in a cool place.
The government weather agency also said pets should not be left inside a parked vehicle and asked the public to check on older family, friends and neighbours.
