THUNDER BAY - A heat warning remains in effect for the city of Thunder Bay and surrounding regions.

Environment Canada first issued the alert on Saturday when temperatures soared above 30 degrees Celsius, with humidex values reaching close to 40 degrees Celsius in some areas.

These temperatures are expected to continue throughout Sunday, with temperatures expected to reach 29 degrees or higher, and will continue through to Monday.

Heat alerts are issued when high temperatures or humidity can cause heat related illnesses. Signs of heat illness include rashes, swelling, cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To avoid such illnesses, people are advised to drink plenty of water before feeling thirsty and to find cool, shaded areas out of the sun.

Cooler conditions are expected by Tuesday as a cold front moves through the area.
