THUNDER BAY — A cordless hedge trimmer is being recalled for a major safety issue.
The Ryobi 40V cordless 24” hedge trimmer can turn on unexpectedly, despite there being separate safety and trigger control buttons.
According to Health Canada, the recall only affects certain model numbers.
Trimmers with model numbers RY40620VNM, RY40602VNM and RY40602BTLVNM and with serial numbers within ranges LT21091D180001 to LT22365D060025 and RG23125N250001 to RG24252D101110 are affected.
The model and serial numbers are located on the data plate at the bottom of the trimmer.
As of May 27, the company has received one reported incident and one report of finger laceration in Canada.
In the United States, the company has received 10 reports of incidents and 15 reports of injury, according to the federal website.
The trimmers were sold from March 2021 to May 2025.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled hedge trimmers and visit the company's website to determine if their trimmer is included in this recall and to obtain instructions on how to receive a free replacement trimmer.
