THUNDER BAY -- A 22-year-old man ran, but couldn't hide from the law and now faces charges of cocaine trafficking and impaired driving.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers say the arrest came after a patrol officer made a traffic stop of a motor vehicle on Powley Street at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
As the police officer approached the vehicle, the accused leapt from his vehicle and fled.
Other officers were provided with a description of the driver, and units began checking the area.
Police say officers located a male matching the officer's description and made an arrest after a short chase.
The 22-year-old man was arrested and charged with impaired driving. After searching the man at the police station, officers found cocaine and a quantity of cash.
The accused has been charged with cocaine possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The accused also refused to provide a breathe sample as requested, which resulted in the charge of "refusal of breath demand."
Police say further investigation revealed that the man had provided a false name to the officers at the beginning of the investigation.
Once police learned his real identity, they determined the man had breached a court order. That led to the additional charge of "obstruct and breach of undertaking."
He appeared in court this morning and has been remanded into custody.
