THUNDER BAY -- A high-risk sexual offender is moving into the city’s south core, police revealed on Monday.

Police took the unusual step of issuing an advisory in the interest of public safety, warning residents that Arthur Joseph Lyons, 64, has been released on parole after spending more than three years behind bars in Alberta.

Lyons was sentenced for sexual interference and failure to comply with a probation order.

He is at present under the supervision of the Federal Parole Board’s Thunder Bay office.

As a condition of release, Lyons is not to have unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16.

“Based on the sum of this information, we believe that this individual represents a significant risk,”said Thunder Bay Police spokesman Chris Adams.

Lyons is described as a 64-year-old male standing 5-foot-5 and weighing 145 pounds.

He is Metis and has brown hair and brown eyes.
