Investigators of a major fire that destroyed a vacant apartment building are calling the blaze “highly suspicious.”

Officials from the Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the Cumming Street fire, which consumed much of a nine-unit apartment building early Sunday morning, was still under investigation.

Investigators say the building was vacant, secured from unintended access and under reconstruction from a previous fire.

No known ignition source was located in the building and an investigation of the fire scene has been complete and members of the Thunder Bay Police Service will continue investigate.

Fire Chief John Hay is asking that anyone with information about this fire contact the Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue or city police.
