Highway 11/17 collision claims life of Southern Ontario man

The collision occurred between Pearl and Highway 587 and closed Highway 11/17 in both directions for several hours.

THUNDER BAY - A serious collision that closed a section of Highway 11/17 Wednesday afternoon has claimed the life of a southern Ontario man.

The collision occurred Wednesday afternoon between Pearl and Highway 587 near Road #5.

According to Acting Staff Sgt. David Moscall with the Ontario Provincial Police Thunder Bay detachment, the collision involved a transport truck and a passenger vehicle.

The passenger in the vehicle died as a result of the collision and the driver is currently in hospital.

The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Mandeep Singh SOHI of Brampton, Ontario.

The collision closed Highway 11/17 in both directions for several hours but it has since been reopened.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
