WAWA, ON — Deteriorating road and weather conditions have forced the closure of part of the Trans-Canada Highway north of Lake Superior.
Ontario Provincial Police said Highway 17 is closed between Wawa and Highway 556 at Heyden.
Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for much of the north shore including communities between Schreiber and Wawa.
Snow at times heavy is forecast to continue into Monday evening, with accumulations of up to 20 centimetres.
Wind gusting up to 50 kilometres an hour will generate local blowing snow, leading to reduced visibility.
A freezing rain warning was also issued for the Lake Superior coastline north of Sault Ste. Marie.
