Highway 61 consultation postponed

Province to look at all projects committed to by previous government in a line-by-line audit of the Ontario budget.
Highway 61 study

THUNDER BAY – A scheduled public information session on a proposed Highway 61 project has been postponed.

A Ministry of Transportation spokeswoman said a comprehensive, line-by-line audit of government spending, including projects committed to by the previous Liberal government.

The meeting was initially called to look at widening a stretch of highway between the Thunder Bay International Airport south to Loch Lomond Road.

The corridor became more congested in 2013, after the closure of the James Street Swing Bridge.

Wednesday’s meeting was the first of three scheduled to discuss the study, which was expected to be completed by 2020.

There’s no indication if the other two meetings will go ahead.
