Winter’s arrival in Thunder Bay has forced highway closures throughout the region.
Heavy snowfall and poor visibility led OPP to shut the Trans-Canada down between Thunder Bay Nipigon, Nipigon and Schreiber and Ignace and Shabaqua.
Police later announced they had re-opened several sections of highway, including the stretch between Ignace and Shabaqua, Highway 11 between Nipigon and Greenstone and Highway 527 from Highway 11/17 to Nipigon. The eastbound lane on Highway 17 between Nipigon and Schreiber is closed, while the eastbound lane on Highway 11 at Longlac is closed due a closure in Hearst.
Highway 17 from Nipigon to White River remains closed until further notice. OPP have also added Highway 614 to Manitouwadge to the closure list.
