THUNDER BAY -- An historic trip to China will still go ahead even if the funds aren't raised right away.

The 10-person trek to Jiaozou China would be the first ever official trip for First Nations to China Thunder Bay Sister Cities committee member Peng You said. The group of dancers and drummers will take part in an international Tai Chi festival.

"It's making history and I feel really honoured to be able to be a part of that," dancer Mary Magiskan said.
The city has extended its fundraising efforts, still needing around $21,000 of its $35,000 goal, until the end of July.

City Aboriginal liaison Ann Magiskan said while sponsorships are still needed, her office will cover the cost of the trip so people can still donate even after the group returns from China, which they leave for next month.
