THUNDER BAY – Home Hardware on Memorial Avenue is stepping up to help the United Way of Thunder Bay.
Locals Chris and Shannon Sauer, who own the store, said they’ve committed to match up to $10,000 in donations to the Thunder Bay Recover 2020 campaign. The money will be on top of the annual donation given to the United Way, which last year topped $4,000.
“The RECOVER 2020 campaign is something our team truly wanted to get behind and support. It fits very well with our own stores mantra of when you support local, local supports you,” Chris Sauer said in a release.
“Local businesses see every day the needs of our community, we live here, we work here, this is our home too. With the current pandemic, the needs have only increased for the organizations that the United Way supports each year, yet the ability to raise those needed funds have been severely hampered. We all need to step-up and do what we can to help.”
The donations are part of an extended Show Your Local Love Day, which on Tuesday launched with a pledge from Tbaytel to match up to $10,000 in donations.
The United Way of Thunder Bay said it is facing a possible $300,000 shortfall from lost workplace fundraising campaigns because of COVID-19.
The Sauers are challenging other local businesses and individuals to step up to contribute to the campaign.
The donation matching will be honoured through Friday.
Intercity Industrial Supply has also stepped forward with a pledge to match donations.
