Thunder Bay Police Service news release:
Homeowner Charged For Unlawfully Selling Liquor
A Provincial Offences Act warrant was successful executed at a residence in the 100 block of Finlayson St. just after 10:00 p.m. on June 4, 2015.
Zone patrol officers had been following up information that a "booze can" had been operating out of a residence for quite some time. Based on information gather by officers over the past few months, a warrant was requested to search the residence. The TBPS Emergency Task Unit did the entry into the residence at the time the warrant was executed.
Patrol officers search of the residence resulted in cash and liquor being seized. Over 12 cases of beer and 50 bottles of liquor (various sizes) valued at approximately $1500.00 were located in the residence along with other evidence of liquor being sold.
Officers also noticed that the doors and windows were fortified and this condition of the residence was reported to the Thunder Bay Fire Rescue for follow up with an Inspector.
A young person was located in this residence. Children's Services was requested by officers and the young person was removed from the residence for safety concerns.
The 51 year old male homeowner was charged under the Ontario Liquor License Act for Unlawfully Keep Liquor for Sale and Unlawfully Sell Liquor. His first court date is August 15, 2015.
This project t by uniformed zone officers is a great example of how zone policing can allow officer the ability to monitor ongoing issues in a neighbourhood and focus on developing plans to deal with the issue that are impacting the community around them.
