THUNDER BAY -- The homeowner of a Winnipeg Avenue residence that caught fire earlier this week has been charged for a smoke alarm violation.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has fined the homeowner $235 for failing to maintain a smoke alarm on the main floor of the home.
Firefighters said the Sunday afternoon blaze appeared to have started when a natural gas furnace inside the home caught fire.
Firefighters also said they were able to protect the structural integrity of the home.
No one was injured as a result of the fire.
