The airport would like to see more business travelers taking advantage of a new flight to Chicago.

United Airlines started flying direct from Thunder Bay to Chicago in February. While Thunder Bay International Airports Authority president Scott McFadden said passenger volume is good, it’s mostly been for leisure.

“We’re certainly hopeful that the business traveler will start using the service,” he said. “We really didn’t know what to expect.”

Like other airlines, United’s main user is the business traveler. McFadden said more flights may increase the amount of business traffic but demand would have to warrant another flight.

“It’s tough but we’ll continue to work,” he said. “We’re hopeful.”

That would be up to United though McFadden said. All feedback he’s heard from passengers has been positive since the first flight arrived from Chicago Feb. 14.
