Hospital’s financial status matter of debate

The financial shape of the region’s hospital appears to be a matter for debate. Officials with the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre say they're looking at a budget shortfall for the year of about $5 million.

The financial shape of the region’s hospital appears to be a matter for debate.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre say they're looking at a budget shortfall for the year of about $5 million.

But the head of the North West Local Health Integration Network has no worries about the budget being balanced.

At certain times, the Hospital is accommodating and caring for as many as 50 patients more than they receive funding for.

MPP Michael Gravelle sat down with the heads of both the Regional and the LHIN recently.  He says he fully supports the Hospital and it's needs.

Gravelle adds that collaboration between all local health providers is key to improving the pressures at the regional hospital.

He believes $4.4-million recently announced for 15 organizations will help keep people out of the hospital.
