THUNDER BAY -- Until this past weekend, July 2017 was shaping up to be a cooler-than-average July for Thunder Bay.
But according to Environment Canada, two of the hottest days so far this summer left the mean temperature for the month sneaking ahead of the long-term July average mean temperature for the city.
Meteorologist Peter Kimbell says the temperature at Thunder Bay airport topped out at 32 C. on Sunday, after having reached 29 C. on Saturday.
That brought the mean temperature for the month to 17.7, narrowly beating the average mean of 17.6.
Kimbell said that with July being neither overly hot nor overly cool, it came out being "a Goldilocks month."
It was, however, drier than normal, with precipitation as of Monday morning totalling 66 millimetres. compared with the long-term average July rainfall of 89 millimetres.
The extended outlook calls for temperatures slightly below normal over a period of several days starting on Wednesday.
